Myriad Dreams

"It is not sufficient to love children - they must know that they are loved."

St. John Don. Bosco

INSPIRATION

"MYRIAD-DREAMS" is inspired by St. Don. Bosco, who's original "DREAM", when he was a near destitute shepherd, was that he should dedicate his life to rescuing, loving and caring for destitute youth. It is also inspired by the fact that ALL Indians always have a "DREAM" for their future.

MISSION

MYRIAD DREAMS raises funds for and helps established NGOs - our "PARTNERS" - caring for destitute/poor Indians -both boys & girls regardless of religion - and helps them to realize their "DREAMS" The Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB), who rescue, care for, educate and nurture "Street children" across India, are our first "Partners"

WHY MYRIAD DREAMS AND OUR PARTNERS SHOULD BE SUPPORTED

  • The desperate plight of destitute children and youth in cities and deprived rural areas is well known and widely acknowledged.
  • There are well over 20 million city "Street Children" and many more millions of deprived rural poor whose income averages 50p or less per day.
  • The economic growth of India has exacerbated the gap between the evolving middle class and the mass of the population.
  • Our "Partners" are established, proven and accountable. They are recognized NGOs and registered charities eligible for tax benefits through UK government Gift Aid.
  • All donations go to specific children or projects. e.g. micro farms and micro finance
  • Donors are kept abreast of the progress of children or projects that they sponsor. They can establish links with them should they so wish.
  • All beneficiaries are required to "give something back" to their Street Children's' family or their rural community.
  • The Salesians of Don Bosco are all volunteers. They share the living conditions of those that they care for.
  • Myriad-Dreams aim to have zero administrative costs. We are committed to these being within 2.5% of donations.

WHAT WE ARE DOING NOW

Sholto's Karma Kerala team (www.karmakerala.com) have produced www.slumdogs.org to coincide with the general release of Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire film (see trailer). This site is being continually updated. They are also producing our www.myriad-dreams.org which will go live shortly.

They have been getting to know and are working with the SDB Snehabhavan (www.dbsnehabhavan.org) in Cochin and providing training to our 3 Auto Driver-Guides to enable them to become our "Ambassadors" in Fort Cochin.

Charles continues to liaise with Fr. Mathew Thomas on how we should best move forward in India and to recruit "Allies" both in the UK and in India for the project.

Lucy is working on building our administrative systems, databases etc.

Charles, Sara and Lucy will be visiting Fr. Mathew Thomas in Delhi, the SDB Snehabhavan and the Karma Kerala team in Cochin, and the SDB Fathers and our Allies in Mumbai.

We also plan to expand, to Mumbai (www.shelterdonbosco.org), and thereafter to Madras and its adjacent rural areas in Tamil Nadu (www.donboscochennai.org), Andhra Pradesh (www.njbb.org), Calcutta (www.ashalayam.org) and thereafter to other places.

We also plan, in due course, to support and work with other well established NGOs such as The Jeevika Trust, (www.jeevika.org.uk), who work in deprived rural areas and TOLFA (www.tolfa.org.uk ) who rescue and care for animals.
