| Lijo-a boy of few words |
|
Name: Lijo
Age:
Home town:Kattapana ,
Family back ground : Father expired. Mother Lissy and his elder sister, Liji are at home.
How he reached here: Due to their bleak financial position, his mother decided to send him to Sisubhavan to pursue his studies. Now he is studying in class V.
Tall and lanky, Lijo is a boy of few words. My queries far outnumbered his answers and often I had to prod him to come up with that extra piece of information! He is good at studies and has not lost many learning years, thanks to his bright academic profile. ' I have A grades for most of the subjects' he proudly stated as I admired his effort with a firm hand shake. He goes home only during summer holidays and eagerly looks forward to vacations as any kid would do.
The only aim in his life is to offer a helping hand to his mother by getting into a decent job. 'My role models are the many past inmates who have brought laurels to the institution' he beamed. Many boys who grew up here are holding responsible positions like research scholars and gazetted officers in reputed organizations.
'I wish I could learn as much as I want' , the words of Lijo clearly conveyed his anxiety about the future and uncertainties that stare and snare at him. However, he is not leaving any stone unturned in his quest for a bright future and is only happy to make that extra stride to even off his economic blemishes.
Soon, it was time for his English Spoken English classes. Before he left, I offered him a scribbling pad , a pen and a few toffees. He gracefully accepted the pen and the pad, and returned the toffees saying that the younger boys deserve the toffees better! Thoughtful and loving, Lijo has indeed decided to mature well beyond his age!!
