Name: Varghese
Age: 13 Years
Home town:Nedumkandam, Idukki ( Dist)
Family back ground : His father, George is a small time farmer and mother Selin helps him in farms . Has two sisters who are studying in their village and stays at home with their parents. Varghese is studying in Class VII
How he reached here: Varghese is staying in Sisubhavan for better education facilities and goes home for vacations. He is lucky to have a home and a loving family unlike many other kids here.
Varghese appeared to me as a straight and simple boy in the first glance itself. With a comic book clutched in hands, he came and sat near me for a friendly chat during one hot, Saturday afternoon.
As I was wondering what to ask him first, he eased my predicament by giving a self introduction. ' I like to study and want to be a successful professional'. He is good at studies and scores 'A ' grades for most of the subjects.
'My aim is to be a successful IAS( Indian Adminstrative Service) or IPS ( Indian Police Service)officer as it has an unbeatable celebrity status tagged to it. Not many options can match its charm in offering something meaningful to the society'. I like to seriously do something for the betterment of the poor and the underprivileged' He told me in one breath, even as he was browsing through his story book. His strong words echoed in my ears as I tried to get a peek at the lighter side of his life.
What are your hobbies? I asked him. ' I like to read science journals and story books of all possible genres'. He told me with a gentle smile. He appeared to be a shade different from the general league of naughty boys who indulge in tomfoolery and mischief all day! I found him composed and mature who likes to take each step at a time towards a reassuring future.
He enjoys every moment of his stay here as he has lots of friends here and good opportunities to hone up his skills. He likes to play outdoor games like football and basketball on weekends though reading remains his first love. Probably, the only thing he misses here in the city is the verdant forest greenery, mountain fresh air and the early morning chilly nip of his native place of Nedumkandam, a sleepy hamlet perched well above the sea level.
